KonnichiWATSON, and Happy Independence Day!
As mentioned earlier, here in Japan, July 4th isn’t a holiday—so we’re working as usual today!
Still, I hope you’re spending this special day with loved ones, surrounded by celebration and gratitude.
Does Japan Have an Independence Day?
In Japan, we don’t have an “Independence Day,” but we do celebrate National Foundation Day on February 11.
It’s said to mark the accession of Japan’s first emperor, though the historical accuracy of the date is debated. There were discussions over what date would be most appropriate, but in the end, February 11 was chosen.
From "Yay, a Day Off!" to Cultural Appreciation
To be honest, when I was younger, I never really thought about the meaning behind holidays—I’d just think, “Yay, a day off!”
But now, thanks to working internationally, I’ve started learning more about the origins of Japanese holidays too.
Interestingly, Japan tends to have more public holidays than many other countries. And not all of them are tied to celebration—some are more symbolic or seasonal.
Over time, many were even moved to Mondays to create 3-day weekends under a policy known as the Happy Monday System.
Uniquely Japanese Holidays You Might Not Know
Here are a few examples of Japanese holidays with meaningful themes:
🗓 July 21 – Marine Day
A day to appreciate the ocean and hope for the prosperity of Japan as a maritime nation.
🗓 August 11 – Mountain Day
A day to connect with and give thanks for the blessings of the mountains.
🗓 October 13 – Sports Day
A day to enjoy sports, promote respect and health, and contribute to a vibrant society.
Honestly, if we have days for the sea and the mountains… shouldn’t we have one for the sky, too?
Changing Holidays for Changing Times
We have Sports day what is originally commemorated the opening of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.
In 2021, it was temporarily moved to July to match the second Tokyo Olympics—another example of how even public holidays adapt over time to reflect changing society and values.
And Now… Our Own Kind of Holiday: Campaign Day!
Now, while today isn’t a public holiday for us, July 1st is always special in one way:
📣 It marks the start of a brand-new campaign!
Have you had a chance to check out our July Campaign Page yet?
See the Micro Dropper in Action!
This time, we’ve also created a YouTube video demonstrating how to use the Micro Dropper (Repetitive Pipette).
Why? Because let’s face it—just reading specs and text on a product page doesn’t always spark your imagination.
But seeing it in action? That’s a whole different story.
We hope the video helps you picture how the Micro Dropper can support your lab work in real life.
As always, thank you for your continued support—and stay cool this summer, wherever you are in the world!
