About Showa Day in Japan
Showa Day is a national holiday established in commemoration of the birthday of Emperor Showa, who reigned during the Showa era.
Because of this, the holiday has been known by different names depending on the era and historical context.
The Showa period was a time of dramatic change in Japan, marked by both difficult experiences and remarkable growth. It is remembered as an era that laid the foundation for the development of modern Japan.
Today, Showa Day is also known as the beginning of Japan’s famous Golden Week, a holiday season that includes several national holidays in early May.
Depending on the calendar, some people may enjoy up to 12 consecutive days off this year.
As for me, I’ll be following the regular work calendar without taking extra days off!
